DFEC (Difluoroethylene Carbonate, DFEC) is a highly effective and essential electrolyte additive, particularly for stabilizing high-capacity anodes like silicon (Si) and lithium metal (Li), which undergo massive volume changes during cycling. The main role of DFEC is to facilitate the formation of a robust, flexible, and ion-conducting Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) on the anode surface, especially for materials that suffer from severe volume changes (e.g., Silicon expands up to ~300% upon lithiation).
