PES (Prop-1-ene-1,3-sultone) (also called 1,3-Propenesultone, PST), is a highly effective, advanced, sulfur-containing functional additive used in Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) electrolytes. Its value comes from its ability to stabilize electrode interfaces at high voltages and elevated temperatures. It is a cyclic sulfonate with a carbon-carbon double bond (C=C), which differentiates it from its saturated analog, 1,3-Propanesultone (PS). This dual functionality is key to its performance: (1) Unsaturated Bond: Promotes polymerization reactions similar to Vinylene Carbonate (VC). (2) Sulfonate Group: Promotes the formation of a highly stable, inorganic-rich film.
