Add-Ons
LiNi0.90Co0.05Mn0.05O2 (NCM9055, Polycrystalline) with Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) Coating represents a state-of-the-art cathode architecture engineered for high-energy-density lithium-ion and solid-state batteries. By combining an ultra-high-nickel NCM9055 core with a fast ion-conducting protective surface layer, this material overcomes the severe degradation challenges typically associated with deep delithiation and high-voltage operation.
The main features of the LNO-coated NCM9055 powder are: (1) Polycrystalline Secondary Morphology: Unlike single-crystal variants, polycrystalline NCM9055 consists of spherical secondary agglomerates formed by radially oriented primary nanograins. This structure provides high tap density and extensive point-to-point contact areas for solid electrolytes (such as Li6PS5Cl) or liquid electrolyte wetting. (2) Ultra-High Nickel Content (90% Ni): Delivers exceptional specific discharge capacities routinely exceeding 210 to 220 mAh/g, maximizing gravimetric and volumetric energy density. (3) LiNbO3 Surface Nanolayer: The conformal lithium niobate coating acts as a fast Li+ conductor, effectively suppressing space-charge layer (SCL) resistance and preventing parasitic oxidation at aggressive high operating voltages. (4) Mechanical Considerations: While the polycrystalline architecture offers rapid ion transport kinetics, it requires controlled upper cutoff voltages and uniform stack pressure to manage intergranular micro-cracking caused by anisotropic lattice contraction during deep delithiation.
