A Four-Probe PEEK Cell is an electrochemical testing fixture designed to measure the in-plane ionic conductivity of polymer electrolyte membranes (e.g., PEMs, AEMs, or solid-state ion exchange membranes). Constructing the cell housing out of PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) provides exceptional chemical inertness, high mechanical rigidity, and high-temperature tolerance (>200°C), making it ideal for testing under aggressive acidic/alkaline vapor or hot humidified gas streams.
The key components of the PEEK testing cell are: (1) PEEK Cell Body: Machined top and bottom blocks with gas/liquid flow channels or open exposure windows for relative humidity (RH) control. PEEK prevents ion contamination from cell leaching. (2) Platinum (Pt) Contacts: Four parallel Pt wires or foil strips embedded at fixed intervals in the PEEK block to prevent corrosion in aggressive ionomer environments. (3) Spring-Loaded Clamping: Ensures uniform, reproducible contact pressure on delicate or swelling membrane strips without tearing the sample. (4) Environment Exposure Window: Exposes the membrane strip to controlled temperature (20°C - 120°C) and relative humidity (20% - 100%RH) inside an environmental chamber.
