A Two-Probe PEEK Split Cell is a modular electrochemical fixture designed to clamp a polymer electrolyte membrane, separator, or solid-state electrolyte disc between two symmetric half-cells made of chemically inert PEEK (Polyetheretherketone). While 4-probe cells target in-plane conductivity, the 2-probe split cell is the standard configuration for measuring through-plane ionic conductivity or evaluating ionic transport across a membrane separating two distinct fluid or gas environments.
The cell consists of two matching PEEK blocks or cylindrical halves that "split" apart to allow rapid membrane loading: (1) Symmetric Half-Cells: Left and right PEEK blocks house identical working/counter electrodes (typically circular stainless steel, platinum, or blocking gold discs) and fluid/gas inlet ports. (2) Compression Sealing: Stainless steel or PEEK tie-rods and threaded screws compress the two halves together. Viton, EPDM, or PTFE O-rings create a leak-tight seal around the membrane perimeter, preventing bypass of liquid electrolyte or gas cross-over. (3) Active Area Definition: The inner bore diameter of the split blocks defines the precise geometric active area (A) of the membrane exposed to the test environment.
