1,4-Benzenedicarboxylic acid (commonly referred to as terephthalic acid, or abbreviated as H2BDC) is the most widely utilized ditopic organic linker precursor in the synthesis of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Its rigid aromatic core and linear, opposing carboxylic acid groups (~180 degrees orientation) provide structural predictability, robust coordination bonds, and high geometric symmetry.
The main MOFs synthesis with H2BDC are: UIO-66, MOF-5, MIL-53, MIL-101(Fe/Cr), MOF-2, and more.
