Sodium-Antimony (Na3Sb) alloy powder is an advanced high-capacity intermetallic anode and sacrificial pre-sodiation additive for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Delivering a high theoretical specific capacity of approximately 660 mAh/g, antimony reacts reversibly with sodium through multi-step alloying transitions, making it a prominent candidate for high-energy sodium storage systems.
The key characteristics and electrochemical behavior of the Na-Sb alloy powder are: (1) Theoretical Capacity: ~ 660 mAh/g based on the full conversion to Na3Sb. (2) Operating Potential: Exhibits a relatively low and flat operating plateau around 0.5-0.8 V vs. Na/Na+, which effectively avoids sodium dendrite formation during high-rate charging while maintaining a favorable cell voltage profile. (3) Dual Function: Pre-synthesized Na3Sb powder functions either as a direct high-capacity composite anode or as a sacrificial sodium source blended into hard carbon electrodes to compensate for initial irreversible capacity loss and maximize initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE).
