Zinc metal is a highly promising anode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). The round disc shape is suitable for coin cell assembly and testing in zinc-ion battery application. 

The main features of ZIBs are shown below:

  • High Safety: Zinc batteries often use water-based (aqueous) electrolytes, which are non-flammable. This is a major advantage over lithium-ion batteries, which use flammable organic electrolytes.

  • Low Cost & Abundance: Zinc is an abundant, common, and inexpensive metal, making it much cheaper than lithium and cobalt.

  • High Capacity: Zinc has a high theoretical capacity, meaning it can store a good amount of energy.
  • Eco-Friendly: Zinc is less toxic and easier to recycle than the materials in many other batteries.
