A photocatalytic batch reactor equipped with magnetic stirring is the workhorse setup for lab-scale advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), pollutant degradation, organic synthesis, and photocatalytic water splitting (H2/O2 evolution). In a suspended slurry system, uniform exposure of catalyst nanoparticles to light is the primary bottleneck. Magnetic stirring maintains a homogeneous dispersion of the solid catalyst, preventing settling and ensuring consistent photon absorption across the reaction volume.

The critical functions of magnetic stirring in photocatalysis: (1) Overcoming Mass Transfer Limitations: Solid-liquid mass transport of reactants (e.g., organic dyes, PFAS, or water) to the catalyst surface can easily become rate-limiting. A stirring speed between 300-800 rpm maintains turbulent mixing without creating an excessive vortex that disrupts light paths. (2) Preventing Catalyst Shielding & Sedimentation: If catalysts like TiO2, g-C3N4, or perovskite powders settle at the bottom, light penetration drops dramatically. Magnetic stirring keeps particles uniformly suspended in the photon-penetrated zone (the optical path length). (3) Dissolved Gas Equilibrium: For oxidative degradation requiring dissolved O2 (to capture photogenerated electrons and form .O2- radicals), continuous stirring accelerates gas liquid-phase mass transfer from sparging lines.

  • Batch Reactor Material: SS316L or Hastelloy C-276 (other material options, such as Ti alloy TA2, Zirconium 702, and Monel alloy 400 can be supplied upon request)
  • Sapphire Window: D=26 mm (25-50 mL), D=25 mm (100-500 mL), double sealing at radial/axial directions with perfluoroether O-ring (Dupont, Kalrez).
  • Reactor Volume Options: 25-500 mL, such as 25, 50, 100, 300, 500 can be selected.
  • Operation Temperature: Standard version≤ 300 °C, adjustable, over-temperature alarm. 
  • High Pressure (standard version): Max. 10 MPa, overpressure alarm. A higher pressure (eg:20 MPa, 30 MPa) can be customized and supplied upon request. 
  • Magnetic Stirring Speed: 100-1200 rpm
  • Magnetic Stirring Bar: (1) PTFE wrapped stirring bar will be used for T≤260°C; (2) Glass stirring bar will be used for 260-300°C
