A Lab-Scale Electroplating Kit with a Hull Cell is a benchtop electrochemical testing system that evaluates plating chemistry, additive performance, and operational windows across a continuous current density gradient in a single test run.

A turnkey laboratory Hull cell kit integrates six core functional units: (1) Hull Cell Bath Vessel: A precision-molded trapezoidal chamber—most commonly the standard 267 mL volume (or 534 mL/1000 mL for pilot work)—fabricated from chemically resistant acrylic (PMMA), PTFE, or PVDF. The 267 mL scale is standardized such that adding 2 grams of an additive to the bath corresponds directly to 1 oz/gal (or 7.5 g/L), eliminating unit conversion friction during bench optimization. (2) Slanted Cathode Fixture: Holds standard test panels (100 * 65 mm or 102 * 76 mm) made of polished brass, copper, cold-rolled steel, or zinc. The panel sits at a fixed 39 degree angle relative to the anode. (3) Anode Options: Corrugated or flat perforated sheets (65 * 65 mm): (i) Soluble anodes: High-purity phosphorized copper, sulfur-depolarized nickel, zinc, or tin. (ii) Insoluble anodes: Platinized titanium mesh or mixed metal oxide (IrO2/Ta2O5 coated Ti) for precious metals or high-acid baths. (4) Precision DC Power Supply: Regulated constant-current (galvanostatic) output, typically 0–30 V, 0–5 A (or 0–10 A) for high-speed strip plating), with digital ripple <1% and ±1mA resolution. (5) Thermal & Agitation System: Integrated immersion quartz or titanium heater with digital PID controller (20–80°C), paired with either a bottom-mounted perforated air-sparging tube (oil-free diaphragm air pump) or a reciprocating mechanical paddle agitator to simulate turbulent line hydrodynamic conditions. (6) Hull Cell Measuring Ruler (Scale): A calibrated transparent overlay grid aligned directly against the processed test panel to map physical position (L) directly to localized current density (j).
