A Vacuum Sealing Machine for Pouch Cells is a critical piece of lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and solid-state battery assembly hardware. It uses controlled vacuum extraction and thermal-impulse clamping to hermetically fuse the inner polypropylene (PP) sealant layer of aluminum-laminated pouch film. Depending on its placement in the production line, it serves as either a Primary Pre-Sealer (post-electrolyte injection) or a Secondary Degassing & Final Sealer (post-formation cycling).

The vacuum electrolyte standing and sealing machine normally includes the following procedures: (1) Cell Positioning & Jaw Alignment: Pouch cells are loaded manually or via robotic pick-and-place into the sealing chamber. The open side or top flap of the aluminum-laminated film is positioned between upper and lower sealing jaws lined with high-temperature PTFE tape or silicone buffers. (2) Chamber Evacuation & Gas Extraction: The chamber closes and evacuates to deep vacuum levels (typically -90 kPa to -99 kPa / <100 Pa). Under vacuum, air pockets and gas bubbles trapped inside electrode pores and separator layers escape through the unsealed pouch opening. (3) Pneumatic Heat Clamping (Thermal Fusion): Pneumatic or servo-driven cylinders press the heating jaws together (0.2 MPa - 0.6 MPa). Digital PID temperature controllers (RT - 250 °C) heat the jaws, melting the internal PP layer to create a permanent, hermetic heat-seal. (4) Pressure-Maintained Cooling & Venting: The jaws remain closed under pressure for a brief dwell/cooling phase (2 - 5 s) to allow the molten PP to solidify cleanly without stress cracks or pinhole defects. The chamber vents to atmosphere, releasing the sealed cell.

Gas Pressure Supply
  • If the vacuum electrolyte filling/sealing machine is placed inside the glovebox, an Ar gas tank with second-state pressure regulator should be connected to supply 40-60 psi for pneumatic sealing.
  • If the vacuum electrolyte filling/sealing machine is placed in a dryroom, then a gas compressor (eg: EUQOFGC) can be considered.
