For coin cell assembly inside a glovebox, a pneumatic crimper is often considered the optimal balance between the speed of an electric unit and the reliability of a manual hydraulic one. Since it uses compressed gas (Ar or N2) to drive the sealing die, it eliminates the risk of hydraulic oil leaks and the potential for electrical arcing in an Argon atmosphere.

The advantages compared to other types of crimpers are summarized below: (1) vs. Manual Hydraulic: No risk of oil leaking into your sensitive Argon environment. It is also significantly faster and less fatiguing for high-throughput batches. (2) vs. Electric: Generally more robust and less susceptible to the "arcing" issues that some 24V DC motors face in high-purity Argon. (3) vs. Pneumatic-Hydraulic Hybrid: Pure pneumatic systems are lighter (typically 25–30 kg) and easier to pass through the glovebox antechamber.
