PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) Milling Balls represent an elite class of high-performance thermoplastic grinding media. While typical polymer-based media like PTFE (Teflon) or nylon are very soft and struggle under high temperatures, pure PEEK is a highly crystalline engineering plastic featuring exceptional mechanical strength, a high melting point (~ 343), and excellent dimensional stability under stress. In laboratory ball milling and bead beating applications, PEEK media fills a critical niche: providing a metal-free, oxide-free, and high-temperature-stable milling environment for sensitive chemical matrices.
The critical advantages are: (1) Advanced Abrasion and Fatigue Resistance: Unlike nylon or polyurethane, which tend to peel or shed elastic polymer micro-fibers into the batch under continuous friction, PEEK possesses excellent self-lubricating wear characteristics and high compression fatigue resistance. This drastically minimizes structural organic carbon contamination during long runs. (2) Radical Resistance to Solvent and Heat Attack: PTFE media is chemically clean but prone to physical deformation (cold flow under pressure) and degrades rapidly above 260°C. PEEK retains strict dimensional tolerances under continuous multi-G planetary forces and can even handle temporary friction-induced heat spikes up to 300°C without shedding or changing shape. (3) Semiconductor and Semiconductor-Grade Purity: PEEK media contains zero transition metals (Fe, Cr, Ni, Co) or mineral oxides (ZrO2, Al2O3). Any trace wear debris consists purely of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen polymers, which can be cleanly pyrolyzed or safely integrated into organic semiconductor and advanced carbon matrices.
