Sulfonated Hydrophilic PP/PET separator is a high-performance, non-woven membrane engineered for aqueous (water-based) battery systems and supercapacitors. Sulfonation is a chemical process that grafts sulfonic acid groups (-SO3H) onto the surface of the fibers. The sulfonic groups can act as fixed ion-exchange sites, which can help in suppressing the migration of certain metal ions (like Antimony in lead-acid batteries), reducing self-discharge. Due to the high concentration of polar sulfonic groups, these separators exhibit instantaneous wetting in aqueous electrolytes (KOH, H2SO4). This reduces "soaking time" during manufacturing and ensures every part of the electrode is active. Moreover, PET component adds mechanical strength and higher temperature resistance (melting point ~260°C) compared to pure PP.
