PFPN {Ethoxy(pentafluoro)cyclotriphosphazene} is a type of cyclotriphosphazene derivative that contains both phosphorus (P) and fluorine (F), making it an excellent candidate for enhancing both the safety and the electrochemical performance of the cell. Due to the presence of phosphorus (P) and fluorine (F), PFPN acts as a flame retardant. It decomposes at high temperatures to release non-flammable species that can capture highly reactive free radicals, effectively interrupting the combustion chain reaction of the highly flammable organic carbonate solvents (like EC, EMC, DEC, etc.). PFPN is a multi-functional additive that also improves the stability of the interfaces at both electrodes.
