PU (Polyurethane) is rapidly becoming a premier choice for high-performance battery binders, particularly in the fields of flexible electronics, silicon anodes, and solid-state batteries. While most traditional binders (like PVDF) are rigid and brittle, PU is a multi-block copolymer consisting of "soft segments" (polyols) and "hard segments" (isocyanates). This unique structure allows it to behave like a "mechanical shock absorber" inside the battery. The soft segments in PU allow the binder to stretch significantly without breaking, while the hard segments provide the structural memory to pull the particles back together during discharge. The highly polar groups (-NH-COO-) form strong hydrogen bonds with the surface of active materials and the metal current collectors。
