Sodium Ligonsulfate (SLS) is a water-soluble, sulfonated derivative of lignin that has transitioned from being a humble "industrial byproduct" to a "super-additive" in battery technology. It is unique because it acts as both a physical glue and an electrochemical stabilizer. SLS is arguably the most promising sustainable binder for Hard Carbon anodes in sodium-ion batteries due to its features of ionic compatibility, uniform dispersion, and excellent capacity retention.
