Ethyl acetate (EA) is a low-viscosity, low-melting-point carboxylate ester solvent widely investigated for wide-temperature and fast-charging non-aqueous battery electrolytes.

The main features of the EA solvent in battery application: (1) Viscosity and Melting Point: EA features a low dynamic viscosity and a melting point of -83.6°C, enabling rapid liquid-phase ion transport at sub-zero temperatures. (2) Dielectric Constant: Its moderate relative permittivity (approximately 6.02) necessitates pairing with higher-permittivity co-solvents or elevated salt concentrations to ensure sufficient lithium salt dissociation.

Its advantages in battery electrolytes are: (1) Sub-Zero Conductivity: EA-based liquid electrolytes retain high ionic conductivity and discharge capacity in operational environments down to -40°C and below. (2) Superior Rate Capability: Low bulk viscosity accelerates Li+ ion diffusion kinetics, making it well-suited for high-power and fast-charging demands. (3) Economic Viability: As a common, non-halogenated industrial ester, EA offers a lower material cost and reduced environmental persistence compared to specialized fluorinated solvents.
