The temperature-sensitive poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA-PEG-PLGA) triblock copolymer hydrogel is an advanced, stimuli-responsive biomaterial. While historically celebrated for drug delivery and injectable tissue-engineering scaffolds, it is increasingly incorporated into bioelectronic interfaces—such as smart biosensors, flexible neural probes, and implantable electrophysiological electrodes—to bridge the mechanical and biological mismatch between rigid hardware and soft living tissue.

Sol-to-Gel Transition (LCST-like Behavior): At lower temperatures (e.g., room temperature or refrigeration, 4°C–10°C, aqueous solutions of PLGA-PEG-PLGA remain in a free-flowing sol (liquid) state due to enhanced hydration of the hydrophilic PEG blocks. When warmed to physiological body temperature (37°C), enhanced hydrophobic interactions between the terminal PLGA blocks prompt micellar aggregation and physical cross-linking, inducing a rapid transition into a solid, viscoelastic gel network.

Its main applications in bioelectronics are: (1) Conformable Interfacial Bio-Adhesive (Tissue-Electrode Interfacing): Rigid or semi-flexible electrode arrays often suffer from micro-motion and poor conformal contact with dynamic tissues like the brain, heart, or skeletal muscle. Applied as a liquid precursor that gels instantly at body temperature, PLGA-PEG-PLGA encapsulates the electrode footprint, filling microscopic tissue irregularities and dramatically reducing interfacial impedance. (2) On-Demand Injectable / Minimalist Implantation: For minimally invasive bioelectronics, the liquid formulation can be co-injected with micro-needle arrays or mesh electronics. It solidifies in situ to anchor the device securely without requiring extensive surgical suturing. (3) Controlled Localized Anti-Inflammatory Drug Delivery: The chronic foreign-body response and glial scar formation often degrade the signal-to-noise ratio of implanted bioelectronics. PLGA-PEG-PLGA hydrogels can be loaded with anti-inflammatory agents (such as dexamethasone) or growth factors, providing sustained, localized release as the polymer matrix undergoes bio-erosion and hydrolysis over weeks to months.

Chemical Formula/Structure
Hydrogel Feature

When the environmental temperature below the phase change temperature, the copolymer can be dissolved in water to form free fluid liquid, while it will form gel when the environmental temperature is higher than the phase change point.

The whole process is reversible.

Package Size 10 g/bottle

Notes: Please try to store the PLGA-PEG-PLGA hydrogel in a dry place.
