Add-Ons
An optimized, long-cycling electrolyte recipe for LiMn0.6Fe0.4PO4 (LMFP) + Graphite systems is engineered to simultaneously build a robust Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) on the graphite anode and mitigate high-voltage transition-metal dissolution (Mn^{2+} migration) from the LMFP cathode.
The recommended electrolyte recipe are shown below: (1) Lithium Salt Formulation (Dual-Salt Base): 1.1 M LiPF6 + 0.3 M LiFSI} (Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide). LiPF6 ensures essential aluminum current collector passivation, whileLiFSI enhances ionic conductivity, lowers interfacial impedance, and promotes a flexible, highly conductive SEI on graphite (2) Base Solvent System: EC / EMC (Ethylene Carbonate / Ethyl Methyl Carbonate) at a 3:7 weight ratio. This blend provides an optimal balance of low viscosity for high-rate ion transport and a wide electrochemical stability window. Incorporating 5 wt% FEMC (Fluoroethyl methyl carbonate) helps form a stable, fluorine-rich passivating film. (3) Key Functional Additives: (i) FEC (Fluoroethylene Carbonate)-2 wt% to 3 wt%: Crucial for engineering a dense, inorganic-rich outer SEI layer on the graphite anode that prevents continuous solvent co-intercalation. (ii) DTD (Ethylene Sulfate) or PS (1,3-Propane Sultone) — 1.5 wt% to 2 wt%: Forms a robust, sulfur-rich sulfur-based interphase that dramatically suppresses impedance growth during extended cycling. (iii) Adiponitrile (ADN) or Succinonitrile (SN) -1 wt%: Acts as a chelating agent. The nitrile groups strongly coordinate with dissolved Mn^{2+} ions originating from the high-voltage LMFP cathode, neutralizing them before they can migrate across the separator and poison the graphite SEI.
