Boron-doped silicon (Si) nanopowder (D50 = 50-100 nm) is an advanced high-capacity anode material engineered to overcome the inherent semiconductor limitations of pristine silicon. The main functions of the boron doping in Si nanopowder are: (1) Enhanced Electronic Conductivity: Substituting silicon atoms with boron (a group III acceptor) creates electron holes within the lattice, increasing electronic conductivity by several orders of magnitude compared to intrinsic silicon. This minimizes internal electrical resistance and eliminates the need for excessive conductive carbon additives. (2) Improved Lithiation Kinetics: Facilitates uniform electron transfer across the active particle network, reducing local polarization and enabling faster lithium-ion insertion/extraction during high-rate charge and discharge cycles. (3) Volumetric Strain Management: While retaining the ultra-high theoretical capacity of silicon (~ 3,579 mAh/g), the boron-doped crystal lattice demonstrates enhanced structural resilience against the severe volumetric expansion (> 300-400%) experienced during deep lithiation.
