Single-Crystal LiNi0.90Co0.05Mn0.05O2 (SC-NCM9055) with Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) Coating represents a state-of-the-art cathode architecture engineered for high-energy-density lithium-ion and solid-state batteries. By combining an ultra-high-nickel monolithic single-crystal core with a fast ion-conducting protective surface layer, this material overcomes the severe degradation challenges typically associated with deep delithiation and high-voltage operation.

The main features of the single-crystal NCM9055 powder are: (1) Single-Crystal Monolithic Morphology: Unlike traditional polycrystalline nickel-rich cathodes made of fragile nanosized grains, the monolithic single-crystal structure completely eliminates grain-boundary sliding and micro-cracking during continuous volumetric expansion and contraction at high voltages (> 4.3 V). (2) Ultra-High Nickel Content (90% Ni): Delivers exceptionally high specific discharge capacities (routinely exceeding 210 to 220 mAh/g), maximizing gravimetric energy density for advanced electric vehicles and high-performance consumer electronics. (3) LiNbO3 Surface Modification (~1.5 wt%): The conformal lithium niobate nanolayer acts as a superionic lithium conductor while suppressing parasitic side reactions, scavenging surface alkaline residues (such as residual LiOH and Li2CO3), and preventing transition-metal dissolution. (3) Optimized Particle Size Distribution: Typically characterized by a tight particle spread ensuring high tap density and uniform slurry packing during electrode fabrication.
