Add-Ons
A medium-scale (bench-to-pilot transition) Electrodialysis (ED) or Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis (BMED) testing system sits squarely between a micro-volume desktop unit and a large industrial skid. It is engineered for advanced R&D, process optimization, and small-batch production validation—providing realistic hydrodynamic and mass-transfer data without requiring large fluid volumes.
The typical structural features of the medium electrodialysis testing system are: (1) Membrane Stack Capacity: Typically houses 10 to 30 cell pairs (compared to 5–10 in micro-bench units and 50–200+ in industrial stacks). Effective membrane active area per sheet ranges from 100 cm2 to 200 cm2 (e.g., standard 10 cm* 10 cm or 15 cm * 20 cm frames). (2) Processing Volume & Flow Rate: Designed for batch volumes of 10 L to 50 L per run, operating with recirculation flow rates between 1 L/min and 10 L/min to simulate real-world linear velocities and turbulence promoter efficiency. (3) Electrical Requirements: Typically paired with a DC power supply ranging from 0-30 V to 0-50 V at currents up to 10 A to 20 A, accommodating higher ionic loading than basic desktop cells.
The main application fields are: (1) Process Scale-Up & Kinetic Modeling: Generating reliable limiting current density curves, electrical resistance profiles, and specific energy consumption data (kWh/m3) needed to design full-scale industrial ED plants. (2) Organic Acid & Fine Chemical Deacidification: Purifying high-value fermentation broths, pharmaceutical intermediates, or food process streams by selectively removing inorganic salts without altering neutral organic components. (3) Targeted Ion Recovery & Wastewater Polishing: Concentrating specific heavy metals, mining leachates, or valuable alkali salts from industrial effluent streams down to strict discharge or recovery limits.
