NVP typically has a lower theoretical capacity (~117 mAh/g) compared to NCM, so increasing areal loading (mg/cm²) and electrode density is the primary way to make it commercially competitive. (1) Avoidance of "Mud-Cracking": In wet slurry casting, NVP's relatively large particle size and high density often lead to cracking during the drying of thick films (>25 mg/cm²). Dry processing uses a PTFE fibril network that acts like "rebar" in concrete, providing mechanical integrity without solvent-driven stress. (2) Improved Tap Density: NASICON structures are often bulky. Dry calendering applies high linear pressure, forcing NVP particles into a more compact arrangement than is possible through evaporation-based shrinking in wet casting. (3) Electrolyte Compatibility: Many SIB electrolytes are sensitive to trace moisture. Dry electrodes eliminate the risk of residual NMP or water trapped in the thick electrode structure.
Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) coated on aluminum foil electrode (disc, sheet, roll) can be used as sodium-ion battery cathode. The round disc shape with single-side coating is suitable for coin cell testing, while the rectangle sheet shape with single- or double-side coating is designed for single-layer or multiple-layer pouch cell testing. The roll shape with double-side coating is designed for cylindrical cell electrodes after slitting.
