NaPAA (Sodium Polyacrylate) is an advanced binder derived from Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) through a process of partial or full neutralization with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). It is a high-performance, water-soluble binder used predominantly in Silicon (Si)-based anodes for next-generation sodium-ion batteries (LIBs). NaPAA provides the required mechanical strength to hold the active material (like SnO2 and Black Phosphorus, which swell significantly) together, preventing the particles from pulverizing and losing electrical contact. NaPAA helps form a stable and protective Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) film on the anode surface. This film prevents continuous side reactions with the electrolyte, suppressing the accumulation of resistive SEI components and greatly improving cycle life.
