Sodium-Deficient NPSC (Na2.9PS3.9Cl0.1) is an advanced sulfide-based solid electrolyte powder engineered specifically for all-solid-state sodium-ion batteries (ASSSIBs). By intentionally introducing sodium vacancies into the argyrodite lattice framework, this material significantly enhances local sodium-ion diffusion kinetics and lowers migration energy barriers, achieving superior room-temperature ionic conductivity compared to stoichiometric analogs.

The key features and electrochemical behavior of Na2.9PS3.9Cl0.1 are: (1) Enhanced Ionic Conductivity: The introduction of controlled Na+ vacancies disrupts local electrostatic bottlenecks, facilitating rapid percolation pathways for sodium ions and delivering high room-temperature conductivity (~ 10^{-3} S cm^{-1} range). (2) Structural Framework: Adopts a disordered argyrodite crystal structure where framework flexibility and halide substitution (Cl-) stabilize the high-conductivity cubic phase. (3) Chemo-Mechanical Adaptability: Like other sulfide electrolytes, Na2.9PS3.9Cl0.1 exhibits favorable mechanical softness, allowing for cold-sintering and intimate interfacial contact with active electrodes under moderate stack pressure. (4) Vulnerability: Highly reactive toward ambient moisture; exposure to air triggers rapid hydrolysis, releasing toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas and destroying the conductive pathways.
