For pouch cell and battery tab welding, the ultrasonic welding head (comprising the horn/sonotrode and the anvil) is the most critical consumable. Because battery materials like copper and aluminum have different hardness levels and thicknesses, the "knurling" pattern (the teeth on the head) must be specifically matched to the application to ensure a robust molecular bond without tearing the foil.
