A hydraulic crimping machine is the final mechanical step in cylindrical cell assembly. It uses high-pressure hydraulic force to compress the top edge of the battery case over the cap (header) and gasket, creating a hermetic, leak-proof seal.
Once the cell has been grooved and filled with electrolyte, the cap and gasket are placed on the "shoulder" created by the grooving machine. The cell is then placed into the crimping die. (1) Vertical Compression: The hydraulic ram pushes the cell upward into a precision-machined die. (2) Edge Folding: The die forces the top edge of the steel case to fold inward and downward. (3) Gasket Compression: The folded metal squeezes the plastic gasket against the cap, forming a gas-tight seal. (4) Pressure Release: The hydraulic cylinder retracts, and the finished cell is ejected.
