Titanium (Ti) mesh is a high-performance, 3D porous current collector specifically engineered for aqueous battery systems like Zinc-ion and Aluminum-ion cells. In these environments, standard aluminum or copper foils would suffer from rapid corrosion or trigger water-splitting reactions. The key benefits of Ti mesh are shown below:

(1) Corrosion Resistance: Titanium naturally forms a dense, inert oxide passivation layer (TiO2) on its surface. This layer protects the mesh from the aggressive acidic or alkaline conditions typical of aqueous electrolytes.

(2) Suppressed Gas Generation: Titanium has a high overpotential for the hydrogen evolution reaction. This means it helps prevent the "bubbling" (water splitting) that can lead to battery swelling and failure in aqueous designs.

(3) 3D Porous Structure: Unlike flat foils, the mesh architecture provides a three-dimensional framework that physically anchors active materials. This prevents delamination during the volume expansion of the electrode and ensures the electrolyte can penetrate deep into the cathode.

(4) Lightweight Durability: Titanium offers a much higher strength-to-weight ratio than stainless steel or nickel. This allows for ultra-thin, flexible meshes that don't tear during the coating or assembly process.
