Operando characterization in pouch cells requires direct visual or spectroscopic access while maintaining hermetic sealing and electrochemical stability. Replacing standard opaque Aluminum Laminated Film (ALF) with a transparent or semi-transparent PA/PE (Polyamide / Polyethylene) composite structure enables real-time monitoring of dynamic processes inside the cell.
The key applications can be: (1) Lithium / Sodium Dendrite Growth: Real-time optical microscopy tracking of metal nucleation, morphology evolution (mossy vs. needle-like), and separator penetration during cycling. (2) Phase Transitions & Colorimetry: In situ observation of optical bandgap/color changes in active materials during intercalation/deintercalation (e.g., Prussian Blue analogs, electrochromic oxides, or staged graphite intercalation compounds LiC6 golden hue). (3) Gas Evolution & Gassing Dynamics: Visualizing pouch bulging, bubble nucleation rate, and electrolyte dry-out under high-voltage or elevated-temperature stress. (4) Electrolyte Wetting: High-contrast imaging of electrolyte migration, soaking dynamics, and dry spots during formation cycles.
