Expanded zinc mesh rolls are high-surface-area 3D conductive substrates used as anodes or current collectors in rechargeable and primary zinc-based batteries. Compared to planar zinc foil, a 3D porous zinc mesh redistributes local current densities, accommodates volume changes, and suppresses zinc dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution, and passivation in aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes.

For the expanded zinc mesh, which has slit and stretched from thin zinc foil (e.g., 99.9-99.99% pure Zn) into continuous diamond or hexagonal openings. The main advantage is the monolithic structure with zero weld/crossover contact resistance, high tensile strength for roll-to-roll continuous processing, and uniform areal mass distribution.
