An economic benchtop Roll-to-Roll (R2R) Tape Casting Coater is a highly sought-after instrument for universities, start-ups, and battery R&D labs. It provides the continuous manufacturing capability of a pilot line but is scaled down to fit on a standard laboratory benchtop at a fraction of the cost. By removing complex automation, industrial sensors, and massive drying tunnels, these budget-friendly units allow researchers to evaluate how experimental slurries perform during continuous coating runs while using very small material volumes.

To compress both the physical footprint and the price tag, manufacturers make specific engineering trade-offs: (1) Compact Single-Zone Oven: Instead of a multi-meter-long drying tunnel with 3 to 5 independent temperature zones, economic benchtop models use a shortened, highly efficient single-zone drying chamber (typically 500 mm to 800 mm in length). It relies heavily on heated bottom plates (conduction) and basic top fan convection. (2) Manual Blade Gap Adjustment: Premium systems use motorized slot-die heads with automated thickness tracking. Economic models stick to a precision Doctor Blade (Knife-over-Roll) assembly featuring dual manual micrometer heads. The operator manually dials in the wet gap (e.g., 0–250 µm). (3) Mechanical Tension Control: Industrial R2R coaters use closed-loop electronic load cells to constantly adjust web tension. Economic units replace these with simple, reliable friction clutches or magnetic particle brakes on the unwind/rewind shafts that the operator tunes by hand. (4) Narrow Web Width: The coating width is typically restricted to 50 mm to 100 mm (2 to 4 inches). This narrow path drastically reduces the machine's overall width, keeping it under a meter long so it can fit on a standard lab bench or inside a standard fume hood.

Part Number
  • EREBR2RTCC (ER-EBR2RTCC)
Power
  • AC220V±10%, single phase, 50/60Hz, 2000 W
  • AC110V can be used with a 3000W transformer.
Coating Area
  • The whole heating bed area is L550*W300, which enable the effective coating width is W250 mm (the roller width is 300mm and the maximum loading substrate width is 280 mm, therefore the coating width could be up to 250 mm).
Coating Speed
  • Max. 500 mm/min, adjustable
  • The driving motor only controls the web speed, but tension and alignment control are not available on the standard version.
Unwinding & Winding Unit
  • The acceptable substrate cardboard is 3" and the maximum diameter is 150 mm.
  • The roller width is 300 mm
  • The alignment and tension-control functions can be supplied upon request.
Heating Temperature
  • IR heating cover: Max. 150 ℃ (single-point control)
  • No resistance heating at bottom, which is good for cooling process for double-side coating (after one side coating)
  • No vacuum suction function is available

Film Applicator

  • A standard doctor blade with 200 mm width is included.
  • Various doctor blade can be found here: ETCCAFA
  • Adjustable gap: 0-3 mm (mechanical gauge, 10 um resolution). The digital gauge can be upgraded upon request.

  • Hybrid slot die heads (eg: ESSAHFA) also can be selected for the coater.

Certification
  • CE certified
  • UL and CSA certification is available upon request at extra cost
