A SS316L foam current collector is an advanced three-dimensional (3D) porous material that moves beyond traditional 2D stainless steel foils. It is essentially a "metallic sponge" with an interconnected network of copper ligaments and open pores. It has the following features of (a) High Porosity: Typically ranges from 70% to 98%, meaning the material is mostly empty space. (b) 3D Interconnected Network: Unlike a mesh or perforated foil, the foam has a stochastic (randomized) honeycomb-like structure that provides electrical pathways in all directions. (c) Large Surface Area: Provides a massive amount of contact area for electrochemical reactions, significantly reducing local current density.
