PE (Polyethylene) separator is a high-performance, "sandwich-style" composite membrane used primarily in large-scale lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems. By laminating a middle layer of Polyethylene (PE) between two outer layers of Polypropylene (PP), manufacturers create a separator that is both a structural backbone and a high-speed safety fuse. The primary reason for using a trilayer structure is to exploit the different melting points of the two materials to prevent thermal runaway. Polyethylene (the middle layer) has a relatively low melting point of ~130°C to 135°C. Polypropylene (the outer layers) has a significantly higher melting point of ~165°C.
