A dual electrolyte battery system is an advanced electrochemical design that uses two distinct electrolytes—typically an anolyte for the anode and a catholyte for the cathode—separated by a membrane or a stable interface. This configuration allows each electrode to operate in its own optimized chemical environment (such as different pH levels or solvent types), which is often impossible in standard single-electrolyte batteries.
Testing these batteries often requires specialized Swagelok cells or custom-built flow cells to maintain the separation of the two liquids
