In solid-state battery (SSB) research, a rectangular split cell is the specialized bridge between standard coin cells and final pouch cell prototypes. While round coin cells are great for testing powder electrolytes, rectangular fixtures are designed to handle laminate electrodes and multi-layered stacks under precise mechanical compression. The main features of the rectangular split cell are shown below: (1) Planar Geometry: The rectangular interior allows for testing flat, tape-cast sheets which more accurately represent commercial "pouch" architectures. (2) Integrated Pressure Plates: These cells are placed inside a mechanical jig or a hydraulic press. For SSBs, maintaining a specific pressure (e.g., 10 to 20 MPa) is mandatory to close the solid-solid interface gaps.
