A Round Split Dry Pellet Pressing Die is a specialized laboratory tool used to compress powder materials into solid, circular pellets. Unlike standard one-piece cylindrical dies, a split die features an internal sleeve or die body that is divided into two or three vertical segments. This design is essential for materials that are highly fragile, brittle, or prone to jamming, as it allows the pellet to be removed by disassembling the mold sideways rather than forcing it vertically out with a plunger.
Standard dies rely on linear ejection, where a plunger pushes the finished pellet out through the top or bottom of the cylinder. For many advanced materials, this wall friction creates tensile stresses that lead to structural failure. Split dies solve this through several advantages: (1) Zero Ejection Shear: Eliminates the frictional forces exerted on the edges of the pellet during vertical ejection, completely preventing "capping" or delamination. (2) Accommodates High Expansion: Excellent for powders that exhibit significant elastic recovery (spring-back) once the pressing load is released, which would typically cause a pellet to seize inside a standard die. (3) Easy Demolding: Once the outer support ring is removed, the internal split core opens effortlessly to release the intact pellet.
