A cylindrical cell grooving machine is a precision tool used to create a uniform inward "bead" or shoulder near the open end of a battery steel case. This groove serves as the structural seat for the gasket and cap (header) and is essential for achieving a hermetic seal during the subsequent crimping process.

When selecting a machine for formats like 18650, 21700, or the larger 4680, look for these critical parameters: (1) Grooving Depth: Typically adjustable between 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm. For 4680 cells, look for reinforced systems that can handle the thicker steel walls. (2) Grooving Width: Standard is 1.1 mm to 1.5 mm, depending on the blade thickness.  (3) Precision: High-end models offer accuracy within ±0.1 mm. (4) Blade Durability: Quality tungsten steel or alloy blades should last for >1,000,000 cycles. (5) Compatibility: Most R&D units come with an 18650 die but offer swappable molds for 21700, 26650, or 32650. Larger cells like the 4680 often require a dedicated "Vertical" structure to maintain stability during rotation.

Part Number
  • ESCCBGM (ES-CC-BGM)
Power
  • AC220V±10%, single phase, 50/60Hz, 300 W
  • A 500 W transformer can be used to accommodate the AC110V.

Grooving Features

  • Cylindrical Cel Size: φ10mm-φ50mm,L20mm-L140mm, such as 18650, 21700, 3260, 4680.
  • The standard grooving die is 18650 that is included (for other grooving dies, please specify it before ordering).
  • Grooving Depth: 0.8-2.0 mm, adjustable. Accuracy: ±0.1 mm
  • Grooving Width: 0.9-1.5 mm. The standard one is 1.2 mm.
  • Lifetime of Grooving Blade: ≥100000 times
Gas Pressure Source (Optional)
  • For the grooving machine placed inside glovebox, an Ar gas tank is required to connect with the grooving machine through KF40 feedthrough.
  • When the grooving machine is placed inside a dryroom, then a gas compressor (EUQOFGC) can be considered.

  • For cylindrical cell with case wall thickness < 0.4 mm, the gas pressure of 60-80 psi is enough. When the cell case wall thickness is >0.4 mm, then the supplied gas pressure should be 100-120 psi.
