In aqueous battery systems, carbon-coated stainless steel has emerged as a high-performance, cost-effective alternative to expensive current collectors like titanium or gold. While stainless steel (typically SS316L) is naturally conductive, its use in aqueous electrolytes is limited by corrosion and high contact resistance, which can be resolved by the ultrathin coating of carbon on SS316L foil.
