Add-Ons
Using OFPA (2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoropentyl acrylate) as a functional fluorinated monomer in Gel Polymer Electrolytes (GPEs) introduces unique physicochemical advantages for high-voltage and high-safety lithium or sodium metal batteries.
Its main structural features are: (1) Fluorinated Segments & Low Surface Energy: The flexible fluorinated alkyl side chain (-CH2(CF2)4H) imparts high hydrophobicity and low surface energy, which assists in forming a robust, fluorine-rich Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) on reactive metal anodes (such as lithium or sodium). (2) Enhanced Thermal Stability & Flame Retardancy: The high fluorine content naturally suppresses the flammability of the polymer network, mitigating thermal runaway risks compared to conventional hydrocarbon-only acrylate matrices (like PMMA or PEGDA). (3) Plasticizer Compatibility: The acrylate reactive group (CH2=CH-COO-) allows for facile radical or UV-induced polymerization, while the perfluorinated tail efficiently accommodates and immobilizes polar carbonate or ether plasticizers (EC/DMC/EMC or DOL/DME) without phase separation.
