Add-Ons
Using OFPMA (2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoropentyl methacrylate) as a fluorinated monomer/crosslinker introduces distinct structural and electrochemical advantages over its acrylate counterpart (OFPA) for Gel Polymer Electrolytes (GPEs).
Its main structural features and advantages in GPEs are: (1) Methyl Group Steric & Electronic Stability: The methyl group -CH3) on the methacrylate backbone reduces radical reactivity compared to acrylates, leading to more controllable free-radical polymerization kinetics and yielding a denser, more thermally stable polymer network. (2) Oxidation Resistance: The combination of the fluorinated alkyl side chain (-CH2(CF2)4H) and the methacrylate backbone lowers the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and raises oxidation stability, extending the electrochemical window above 4.6 V vs. Li/Li+. (3) Robust Interfacial Passivation: OFPMA-derived gel networks facilitate the decomposition of fluorinated segments to form a stable, inorganic-rich Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) and Cathode Electrolyte Interphase (CEI) containing LiF and fluorophosphates, suppressing transition metal dissolution and lithium dendrite growth.
